Quip has completely revamped the mobile and web word
processor, it has integrated search and publishing capabilities and it is
quickly becoming a formidable rival of cloud productivity
apps like Google and Microsoft.
A great new feature that Quip offers its users is private
document sharing. Users can share their documents with others using a private
URL. The use of private URL facilitates the viewing of documents for everyone,
even if they are not signed up on Quip. As an author you can set different
levels of accessibility for your document. You can set it as a viewing only
document or you could choose to give full editing access to users. There are
also some other accessibility options you can set, for instance you can allow
people to leave comments but not edit your document.
People can view Quip documents without signing up, but to
edit documents they will have to signup, people accessing documents using their
smart phones will have to install the app. The option to share documents with
people who are not signed up for Quip accelerates the adoption of this app as
people will easily get convinced to start using Quip after they have received
the document and they need to edit it.
Another great feature of Quip is the search engine. It has
an integrated search engine that finds queries from the text as well as the
comments on documents, the search engine has been precisely designed to work
well on smart phones. It also has auto-suggest and auto-complete capabilities.
With the recent update Quip has made it possible to export
your documents to Microsoft Word, and now it is also easier to switch between
chat threads and documents. It further plans to launch presentations and
spreadsheet app later this year so it becomes a complete suite with three major
productivity components.
