Email marketing is one of the fastest growing methods being
employed by corporations all over the world to get their message across to
their customers. The reason being that email marketing is comparatively cheaper
as compared to other means of communication such as print media, advertising,
and newspaper articles, and even that it can easily cover a wide range of the
target population. However, alongside its many advantages, there are certain
disadvantages too. This is not a personalized approach, which makes customers
feel alienated as the same email is being sent to possible a 1000 other
customers. Moreover, the response rate with such a medium is also very low as
customers are hardly pressed to click the link to open an email as there is no
direct interaction.
However, it can be ascertained that the advantages far
outweigh the disadvantages, and therefore companies are likely to use this
instrument heavily in the near future. Now the question arises, how can this be
improved? For starters, companies would have to simplify their emails. Most
emails being sent out nowadays have an incredible amount of information in them
that are of no use to the customer. While there are also some emails where too
many facts and figures and other techniques have been employed to confuse the
customer and coerce them into buying the product. These techniques might work
in the short run, but they cannot possibly survive in the long run.
Companies should send information to customers that are only
relevant to their particular locality, area, or community. This brings
personalized touches to your message as well. Moreover, make the subject
attractive. This would tempt the customer into opening your email. Last but not
the least, present your ideas clearly and without distortion. Customers do not like being cheated on, and your company could
fast go down the drain if such a thing happens.
