Google has recently announced its new update Android 5.0
lollipop, and the most noticeable change is the fresh new design called
Material. It has changed the whole appearance of Android with new app drawer, notification
shade, setup menu, icons and animations. The home, recent apps, and onscreen
back buttons have also been changed. Although Material has significantly
changes the way Android look you are most likely to the see most drastic
changes on Nexus devices, the reason behind this is that phone manufacturers
change the appearance of Android using custom skins.
Material has changes the way the phone reacts to your touch.
An example of this is that when you press a button there is a shading on the
screen radiating outwards, signaling that the phone that registered the touch.
The animations has also increased, they are everywhere now. There are
condensing and expanding effects when you exit or open the app drawer. When you
slide from the top to view notifications there is a sliding animation, and when
you unlock your screen there is a zooming effect.
Calendar and Gmail have got makeovers in the new Android
5.0, they have got new layouts and a cleaner design. Gmail has got a simplified
inbox and an updated menu.
Notifications have also got an update in Android 5.0, as
always you can view notifications by swiping down from the top of the screen,
but now they have been added to the lock screen similar to Moto Alerts and iOS.
Each notification now appears on the lock screen as a card
that you can swipe down to expand it, you can swipe sideways to clear it, or
you can tap it to open it. You will have the option to enable or disable
notification on the lock screen to protect your privacy.
